Black Women Comedians
Women have had to fight tooth and nail to get their feet into the comedy business. In this article, we take a look at black women comedians who will make you laugh till you cry.
Comedy has long been a male dominated field. It took women a good long time to break down the door, but it is a good thing they did as they are simply hilarious. As hard as it was for women in general, black women comedians had it twice as hard. Gender and race bias is a nasty mix. Fortunately, they battled through and gave us some of the best comedians in history. Not black comedians. Not female comedians. No, just some of the best of all the comedians regardless of their gender and race.
Black Women Comedians
- Mo'Nique
- Whoopi Golberg
- Alycia Cooper
- Wanda Sykes
- Debra Wilson
- Erin Jackson
- Lady Roz G
- Leslie Jones
- Aisha Tyler
- Adele Givens
- Moms Mabley
- Sheryl Underwood
- Sommore
- Thea Vidale
You know what? That list is far too short and that is a real shame. The list should be much longer. Mo’Nique in particular is funny as sin as is Wanda Sykes. Whoopi Golberg really broke the ground for black women comedians, but it seems there is much more work to be done. That’s a shame.
